2020 COVID-19 Update | 2020 Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) for the Australian and New Zealand Society of Geriatric Medicine (ANZSGM)

Announcement date: Tuesday, 17 March 2020

On the advice of the Department of Health surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the local organising committee and the ANZSGM Council have made the decision to cancel the 2020 Annual Scientific Meeting, originally scheduled for May 27-29 in Melbourne, Victoria, including the post-conference Advanced Trainee Weekend and the pre-conference SPDP Workshops.

The meeting has been rescheduled until Wednesday 19 May - Friday, 21 May 2021 in Melbourne. We sincerely hope that you will be able to join us then and continue your support for the ANZSGM. With the outstanding co-operation of our colleagues in Western Australian, the Perth ASM will be postponed to 2022.

We will contact registered delegates, exhibitors and sponsors with further details.

This was not the vision for the future that we expected but these are unprecedented times. As health professionals working with the older population, we will be called upon to work in the front lines, to provide high quality care and advocacy for the vulnerable in our society. We wish you good health and fortitude in the months ahead.

Postponement FAQs

Are you refunding registration fees?

Yes. ANZSGM will issue full refunds to those who registered to attend the 2020 ASM and Advanced Trainee Weekend. Refunds will be returned in the same form as the original method of payment. Please allow up to 30 days for funds to be credited back to accounts.

How will refunds be issued? Do I need to email the Organising Team?

All registered attendees will be credited the full registration, which will be applied using the method in which they paid. There will be no cancellation fees. Please allow up to 30 days for the refund to appear on your credit or debit card account.

I submitted an abstract for the Call for Abstracts review. What happens now?

The abstract review will not proceed for 2020. We invite all authors to re-submit for the 2021 ASM.

Are you refunding flight or travel costs?

ANZSGM does not manage refunds related to individual travel costs. Please contact your travel agent or airline directly to discuss specific cancellation policies and refund information. In some cases, airlines may offer refunds with no cancellation fees due to travel bans.

Are you refunding hotel costs?

No. ANZSGM will not refund hotel costs. Attendees who booked a hotel in the official ASM hotel block at Sofitel will have their reservation automatically cancelled with no charge. Attendees who did not book a hotel in the official ASM room block must contact their hotel/lodging directly to cancel reservations.
